CNN.com’s Poll: Most Americans see lingering racism — in others writes about how racism is still alive today and how many people in the U.S.A. are quick to accuse others of being racist but very few people in the U.S.A. will admit to being racist themselves.

“Asked if they know someone they consider racist, 43 percent of whites and 48 percent of blacks said yes.”

“But just 13 percent of whites and 12 percent of blacks consider themselves racially biased.”

The reason why people accuse others of being racist but do not admit it themselves is that it is easier to put others down to make yourself look like a good person than put yourself down and admit to your wrongs. If we could gain the confidence to admit to wrongs like racism we would function much better as a society.

It is totally true how it is easier for people to put down others and make oneself look like a good person, than it is to put themselves down and admit to their faults. The poll definitely shows this point, because almost half of the polled population pointed the finger at others, but ony a fraction of them admitted to being racist. However, looking at these results with an optimistic view, one might see that the 88% of people who claimed not to be racist are telling the honest truth. Of course, if this is not the case, than those optimistic people are masking the truth, and making the problem worse.

This is something that i definitely agree with. If everyone was willing to admit to the wrongs of racism, then who knows where we would be today. Probably in a position of very little racism?

I agree with you and I also think that instead of accussing others of being racist people should come and realize that they may be racist as well. The article you read seems very interesting and the statistics that come out of it show exactly how scared people are of talking about themselves possibly being racist.
