Expectations for The Crucible
My expectations about The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, are that it will freak me out a little and be suspenseful. I read “My Brother Sam is Dead” that took place during the American Revolution. We learned a bit about the Salem Witch Trials in American History. I went to Salem, Mass. with my confirmation class in the spring of 2005 as part of our trip to Boston. I say the graves of some of the people who were hung during the Salem Witch Trials. The graves just names and the year of death. One grave said “crushed to death.”
Because this book was written during the “Red Scare”, I think that the author will connect something about communism into the play. I don’t know which side Arthur Miller was on during the Red Scare, and it will be interesting to see.
