“Faith and Doubt” Response

September 14, 2006

I agreed with Rabbi Brad Hirschfield the most on his definition of evil.  He says that evil is something big and little things that people do wrong are not evil.  I feel that if you make a mistake it is not evil, it is just a mistake.  For example, oversleeping or getting into an auto accident are not truely evil, they are just mistakes.  I feel that people who call everything that is wrong “evil” are people who just want a cut and dry conclusion. I agree with Rabbi Hirschfield that naming one person as evil does not make the evil go away.  It is stil there and it is still evil.

Basel write that the war in Iraq is an example of a mothern act of evil.

“I also think that an example of evil in modern times is what we are doing in Iraq, just there allowing our soldiers to get killed and have innocent Iraqis killed.”

I fully agree with you on this statement even though I think no one is evil exept satan but I think an act could be evil like the war in Iraq. What I think is more evil is using an act of evil as an excuse to comit an act of evil. A good examle of that is when some people say “we went to war with Iraq because of 9/11″. What I think we’ve should have done, was to spen more time effert an money into loooking for the man resonsible for 9/11, Osama Binadin instead of going to war with Iraq. I hope that our nation can get back on track.

Evil

September 11, 2006

Evil is someone who doesn’t care about anybody except himself and gets perverse pleasure from watching people suffer. No one except Satan is truly evil even though many people come quite close. Some examples of people that come close to evil in the modern world are Osama Bin Laden, Kim Jongil, and Geoffry Dommer. Some examples in history are Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Haman. Some examples of people who come close to evil in Literature include Lord Voldermort in “Hary Potter,” Big Brother in “1984,” and Asef from “The Kite Runner.” Even the most sinister people could have rejected evil if they had made different decisions.
